Learn By The Light Of The Moon Speaker Series

Saturday, May 18, 2019

The talk is titled "From the subalpine to the sea: assessing the status and resources within the Olympic National Park". It is presented by Dr. Rebecca McCaffery, Wildlife Biologist for the USGS. Rebecca will speak about the Natural Resource Condition Assessment that she and the USGS worked on with Olympic National Park from 2015-2018. In this multi-authored report, they examined the status, trends, threats, and information gaps for 12 important natural resources within Olympic National Park. This report was designed to lay an important foundation for developing resource management plans for the park. Rebecca will provide an overview of this assessment, why it’s important, and what they looked at. She will then move through the park, from the subalpine to the sea, highlighting some of the resources they explored, what they found, and how it’s relevant to our north Olympic communities. Natural resources covered may include elk, salmon, spotted owls, seastars, rivers, and others.
